You can only recruit 15 peasants at the beginning, until you join a faction. This is as close as you are going to get to Warband's system of recruitment. Now you can recruit their troops from towns and fortresses (not villages). The bad news is even an early game 14 unit patrol is probably going to be able to beat the crap out of you until you get better armor and some mercs to back you up.ĥ.Accept a mercenary contract with a faction. The good news here is you can get awesome troops like Winged Hussars very early on this way.

You can then free the prisoners and have them join you. Sadly this takes even longer to do than recruiting mercs from taverns.Ĥ.Go to war with a faction, and constantly harass any patrols you find that actually have prisoners. Bandits in this game tend to have guns, and as such they don't suck anywhere near as much as in Warband. The good news is you can pay a small fortune to upgrade their equipment.ģ.Use one of those crappy blunt weapon and start capturing bandits. You can recruit in bulk this way, but they will cost several times as much as the mercs from taverns while coming with incredibly bad gear (as bad as bandits actually).

On the plus side, tavern mercs are comparitively cheaper than they are in Warband and they come with decent gear.Ģ.Recruit mercs from a mercenary camp (looks like the training camp from Warband). You can't get them in bulk, have no control over what mercs you will end up encountering, and it will take forever to get enough troops this way. Fire and Sword has a rather idiotic quirk in that you can only recruit from villages if you have less than about 10 soldiers total.ġ.Recruit mercs from taverns.
